Despite our limited outside facilties, we have always offered a wide variety of sports at St. Michael's and are successful in range of competitions. Specialist sports coaches teach each class once every week. They did run a popular before school sports childcare club called Early Sports and two after school extra-curricular clubs each week which covered a wide range of different sports, offered to all classes on a rota, but this had to be paused due to Covid and a lack of space in school now that Early Birds and Owls runs from the hall. We have netball and rounders clubs which run on Tuesdays after school in the terms when there is sufficient daylight, but our dance club has also paused due to lack of space. School takes part in all the competitions run by the Heywood Schools Partnership throughout the year with teams that are chosen for their abilities either through open try-outs or from observations during lessons by teachers and coaches, usually choosing from the oldest applicable year group first for each competition.

A huge congratulations to our Cross Country team. You all ran superbly well and did St Michael's proud with having children placed in the top 3 in all four races. Well done to you all.
Well done to our Football teams.
Our Year 5/6 boys' team and our Year 3/4 boys' team both finished runners up in their league competition.
Our Year 5/6 girls' team won their competition without conceding a single goal. #invincibles!
Well done to our Year 3 football team. They represented our school extremely well and had the opportunity of playing at The Cliff.
Some of our Year 6s have been trained to become Sports Leaders. They flew through the course and gained valuable strategies and games to introduce to our school.
